Glossary

The Sowells have their own language. Occasionally through my daily rants, you may not know exactly what I am talking about since I might be using “Sowell talk”. It is a language only we understand, but now you can too!  I thought it would be wise to start a reference so we are all on the same page. I will update the list as I remember more. Toodles!

• Hurry Up Offense (noun)

1.  Created by Mr. Sowell. This is referring to the play of the evening. On evenings when Mom is not around, and where Mr. Sowell has to leave early, we run what is called the hurry up offense. We get in, get kids showered, fed and in bed. On these evenings, there is no time to waste. There is no play time, hell, they barely have a chance to swallow food. That’s how fast it is.

• Mannoy (noun)

1.  Created by Rashid. Derived from “majorly annoying” Most often used to describe M’khai. The mannoy has surpassed being an annoyance. When you get called a mannoy in this house, you are working the back-up, last nerve of someone. 

• Juyk (noun)

1. Created by Mom. This really is the word “jerk” but with her thick accent, it comes out sounding a little off. Most often preceded by “What are you some kind of..” This is not always demeaning. It is used to call your attention to the stupidity one might be engaging in. It’s actually quite helpful.
